Meet Our VT100 Charity Runner-Faith Raymond Strafach #VT100 #ultrarun #VermontAdaptive #VT #NH

"we love to run together"

Faith Raymond
I have been a runner for about five years now. It began with a simple benefit 5k for my hometown after it was hit by an EF3 tornado. That turned into a half marathon at another charity run in my hometown, this time to raise money for cancer research, in memory of two sisters who passed away 8 months apart. The following year I ran my first marathon as part of Team Hole in the Wall, where I collected donations to help kids with cancer and other chronic diseases go to summer camp.

See the trend here? Those early races fueled my passion for both running and for raising money for worthy causes.

Soon the marathon distance wasn’t enough for me. I graduated to 50ks, and then decided to make the leap to the 100k. I come from an equestrian background and have ridden the Moonlight in VT a few times.

Something inside of me wanted to know what it would be like to traverse those trails on two feet instead of four. Add to that the fact that I would get to see all my horsey friends on the trail, and I was sold on the VT100k. Last spring I decided that as soon as registration opened for the race, I would throw my hat into the ring.

When Joe proposed at the top of Mt Washington in July 2015, I knew that we’d get married at a road race. We love to run, but most of all we love to run together – so it seemed like a perfect fit. Since we were both established in life and we really didn’t need anything, we decided that instead of wedding gifts we wanted to allow people to make donations to charity – and runners are such wonderful people that I knew this idea would be well received.

I have long since been a part of Achilles International, an organization that provides guides for blind and disabled athletes. Setting up a donation page for Vermont Adaptive Ski and Sports was a natural extension of my love for helping physically challenged athletes reach their goals. Never in my wildest dreams did I ever think that my friends and family would help me raise nearly $3000 for this amazing organization.

I am so excited to be a part of this race, and to be able to support the charity in such a profound way. These athletes inspire me to be a better person. Whenever I get tired and want to complain about how hard the training is, I think about them. They put the power back in my stride and get me through the tough times. Every step I take is for them, and I hope I make them proud.

REMINDER-Vermont 100 Service Requirements Due BEFORE June 15th #VT100 #ultrarun #VermontAdaptive #VT

http://vermont100endurancerun.blogspot.com/p/service-requirement.html

SERVICE REQUIREMENT REPORT FOR 2016 Due BEFORE June 15th!
Each participant is required to document 8 hours of qualified service.

The requirement may be met in the US or abroad at ANY ultra event of 50K or longer.

Officially recognized trail maintenance of any 50K or longer race or local, state or national trail system that encourages recreation is also ALWAYS accepted.

The VT 100 will usually accept time volunteered to youth running teams or clubs and any program that directly engages folks with disabilities in recreation. [Please note that crewing or pacing a runner at an ultra is NOT considered volunteering!]

The service must take place during the 14 months before the race.

The VT100 service requirement form will be submitted electronically through RunReg.com. Information on how to submit your service requirement details will be available after registration.

All acceptable service must be completed prior to June 15th.
In the event that you are unable or unwilling to meet this requirement, you may instead pay a $150 service buyout fee. This can be paid on our online registration site or by check.
The fee is due by the same June 15th deadline.

After acceptance into the Vermont 100, runners can self-report their volunteer service electronically. In early February, a registration category labeled 'Volunteer Service Information' will be available on the VT100 RunReg.com site. Enter your volunteer information under that category. You must have (1) date you volunteered, (2) where you volunteered, (3) what you did to volunteer, (4) number of hours you volunteered, (5) name and contact information for whoever you volunteered for.

Please Welcome Our New GOLD LEVEL Sponsor-Farm To Feet #VT100 #ultrarun #VermontAdaptive #VT #NH #FarmToFeet

https://www.farmtofeet.com/

Vermont 100 is excited to announce our newest Gold Level sponsor, Farm to Feet. For those not familiar, Farm to Feet makes amazing wool socks using an all-American recipe - US materials, US manufacturing, and US workers. Their Ashville 1/4 crew (light trail running sock) is a personal favorite of mine.

As part of their sponsorship, they are looking for 4 Vermont 100 participants to be Farm to Feet Race Ambassadors. The selected ambassadors will receive a care package from Farm to Feet with several varieties of their socks to test out prior to the race. Pick the sock style that you want to use during the Vermont 100, and they will send you a few pair of those for race day!

If you are interested in becoming a Farm to Feet Race Ambassador, fill out the survey here: http://bit.ly/F2F-VT100 (it will take only a few minutes). Enter by June 19th to be considered, ambassadors will be selected and notified by June 24th.

And a huge thanks to Farm to Feet for their support of the Vermont 100 Endurance Race!

-Amy, VT100 RD
